This is one of the number one misconceptions of girls who are thinking about entering into CrossFit. Every woman is different, but just because you are embarking into a gym with weight lifting and high intensity exercise does not mean you will turn into a female Schwarzenegger. Testost
So will CrossFit make you gain muscle? Absolutely.
Will it give you biceps bigger than your head? No.
Heavy lifting often gets correlated with huge muscles, but with CrossFit there’s so much more involved, there is an intensity factor and every workout involves cardio. The reason CrossFit females look so fit is that the movements are full-body and functional. The heavy-lifting exercises involved in CrossFit such as back and overhead squats can look misleading appearing to be lower body dominant however if performed correctly newcomers soon realize that they require full-body engagement. For instance if you engage your abdominals in every part of a movement as simple as a squat, then you’d better believe you will have a stronger core and maybe a more appealing waistline!
Everybody has different goals within CrossFit. Generally, CrossFit classes are going to make you a well-rounded athlete, and by no means is CrossFit going to change your physique in any sort of unappealing way. This is exactly why I love CrossFit. CrossFit teaches girls that strong is sexy. Muscles are sexy. Lifting heavy weights is sexy. You don’t see CrossFit girls shying away from heavy weights; you see them striving to hit PRs.
